Raisins

So I'm feeling much better today, not because anything's actually gotten better (the raisins are missing, and it's blizzarding, so whatever we may have unpacked is negated) but because only one of us can implode at a time.

This morning, Dave wanted oatmeal. I said yum, make me some too, and got in the shower. When I came out, it was as though the world had turned upside down. The raisins were missing. For some people (i.e. Dave), oatmeal is not worth having without raisins. Oatmeal was now out of the question, and his day was ruined because of it.

Then his day was ruined more because where is the stepstool? And where is the broom? And didn't I know how to make my own damn coffee? (This last one is somewhat legitimate, but I honestly don't know how to make my own coffee in the schmancy coffee maker unless he writes it down which he hasn't done yet and there's not much I can do about that (or the stepstool, or the raisins) right this second).

The final straw for Dave, though, was when he couldn't find his snow shoes. They weren't in a box marked snow boots (which granted one might hope they would be in) or in a box marked Dave's winter stuff or in any other box visible. And what with the blizzard I can completely understand wanting to wear snow shoes. But the snow shoes were missing, and it was time to go. It was past time to go. I tried to nicely convey how sorry I was that the snow shoes were unavailable at this time, but that we really did need to leave and could he please put some shoes on, shoes of any kind? Please?

Stomp stomp stomp stomp, I hate this, we can't find anything, what are we doing unpacking books when we could be unpacking snow shoes and a coffee maker Nikki knows how to use and raisins for crying out loud!

I hear you, honey (except for the raisins. Blech. Not getting much sympathy there.)

The funny thing is, this could easily be me, only I'd be ranting about specific earrings I wanted to wear and these shoes look simply terrible with this outfit and now I have to go change and the boxes are tripping me and if we had to lose anything, couldn't it have been raisins???

So we trade off. Gives each of us a chance to feel superior and patient and replete with heavenly virtues.

Bootie status: Two down.

Great news. Found the raisins! (Still looking for winter boots, though.)
