Estes Vest

Estes Vest, by Hana Jason, knit with Malabrigo Merino Worsted, in about four days as I was laid up with my leg in the air.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this vest. I think it looks good, I love the colors, it's incredibly warm and comfortable, but knitting it wasn't necessarily the most pleasant experience. (My state of mind at the time may have contributed to that). It seems to be slightly too small, but I had yardage concerns and seeing as how I was housebound, no way to get more yarn, so I went with the recommended size for my bustline. But I spent the entire time looking at it askance and wishing it would be bigger. Looking at it now, I don't think it is actually too small, but the way it is designed pulls it out at the center, looking as though I'm going to burst my toggles, and though I made the loops way smaller than called for, it won't sit perfectly closed.

On the other hand, I loved knitting the cables--love the honeycomb cables--so fun! And the way they disappear into ghosts of honeycomb cables along the sides....neat! And you've got to be impressed by a pattern where the finishing takes twice as long as the actual knitting.

The pockets amuse me. They are obviously useless as pockets, but they are nicely decorative, and hey, they keep your knuckles warm.

Oh, I'm sorry--I totally should have stated. It's from the Fall 2008 Interweave Knits.
