October

U2 got it wrong (or maybe it's different in Ireland).  But October here is not bleak and dark--it's a little gift.

I spend most of each summer dreading the coming fall, because that means it's almost winter, and winter is awful.  And then we get to October, and I remember...oh right.  Fall isn't so bad at all.  Especially when, as it does almost every year, it gives you a weekend like this past one.  When it was so warm we went to the beach, for crying out loud.

RockNoodle was the only one smart enough to bring a suit (Dave and I weren't quite that optimistic), but we all splashed around in the shockingly warm and calm water.

And then on Monday, we put on our tank tops and went to one of our very favorite places (already well-documented here), the New York Botanical Gardens for their Pumpkin Festival.

Right?

And the only thing better than really big pumpkins and pumpkin bugs and pumpkin tree guys?  A pumpkin house!

And then even when it does finally turn cool for good, you're ready for it.  The smells of brown and the sweaters and the leaves and the apples and the bright, bright light are things to look forward to, not to dread.

So thank you, October.  We'll remember you come February.

Thank you for the reminder of how much October has to offer. This year has been particularly spectacular. Glad you got to enjoy it.

Hooray for global warming! :)

Just kidding. After serving my time in Seattle, I truly appreciate nice weather, too.

Well, the downside is End Times-type hurricanes and heat, but I'm all for more time outside!
